one room challenge spring 2019 guest bathroom renovation design mood board

Can you believe it’s already APRIL?! What on earth?! Now that Spring is finally emerging from its long hibernation, I’m ready to tackle a bit of a bigger project – and by bigger project, I mean the Spring One Room Challenge! This is our third time participating in the challenge, and I cannot recommend it enough! It has been so much fun each time! We tackled ourKitchen and Master Bath in the last two challenges, and this time we’ll be tackling the upstairs Guest Bath!

If you are new here or haven’t heard of the One Room Challenge (or ORC) before, welcome! The ORC is a 6 week challenge where 20 featured designers and hundreds of guest participants support each other in renovating/remodeling ONE entire room! It’s an incredibly supportive environment, and so much fun to see everyone’s transformations. Truly, if you’re looking for home inspo, this is the challenge for you to follow along with! You can go see ALL the other rooms over at the ORC Blog Page!

Each week, I’ll be back to update you on the progress of our guest bath renovation. This week, I’ll be discussing out budget, our weekly task plan, and of course, sharing the before shots and our design inspo board! So let’s get to it!

Budget:

Our budget for this ORC is DRASTICALLY less than the previous two challenges – just $500! But here’s the thing – I’m approaching this challenge a bit differently. This one, I’m truly doing for US. Not to win. Not to impress. Just for US. And ironically, that also kind of makes this challenge more for YOU too – YOU, the real life person reading this. The person who might want to update their space but not break the bank. So, if that’s you, then I hope this renovation will INSPIRE you. Because I’m here to tell you, and then to show you, that you can make a BIG impact and HUGE visual change in any room in your home, even ON A DAMN BUDGET. (profanity for emphasis!)

I wasn’t so great with our budget breakdown on our master bath, but I’ll have it all broken down for you this time. As of right now, I’ve spent about half of our budget. Full details on all costs will be in the final reveal post on May 9!

I’ve also been lucky enough to partner with two brands – Giani, Inc. and D Lawless Hardware – on this amazing renovation. Both have provided me with products free of charge in exchange for an honest review of their products. I actually worked with Giani on our master bath renovation as well – and I LOVED their Nuvo Cabinet Paint so much, that I came back for more!

The Before:

Here are some before photos of the space – it’s basically, as most of our home was when we moved in, builder grade “BLAH.” It functions fine, but it’s completely lacking in any style whatsoever.

See what I mean on the builder grade blah?
And that tile! ICK!

The Design Plan:

I’m going for an old building/school house kind of vibe. Rustic industrial meets farmhouse – ya feel me? Here is the inspo board I created for the space – I’ve still got a few surprises up my sleeve though, so stay tuned!

To Do – by the week:

Each week, I always have a list of to-dos. It helps us stay on track, and also helps hubby know what tasks he needs to help with each weekend (he is currently in business school getting his MBA while also working full time, so I always promise him that 90% of these renovations will be all me) – I just need his help with plumbing, electrical, and heavy items!

Week 1-2:

  • Remove mirror
  • Tape off faux bricks
  • Joint compound faux bricks
  • Remove shower curtain rod
  • Remove light fixture over sink

Week 2-3:

  • Refinish thrifted mirrors
  • Paint/seal faux brick
  • Replace both light fixtures
  • Install window trim

Week 3-4:

  • Remove/spray paint sink hardware
  • Spray paint medicine cabinet shelving
  • Paint cabinets
  • Hang shower curtain rod
  • Install wire and hang mirrors
  • Upgrade medicine cabinet

Week 4-5:

  • Paint floors
  • Reattach sink hardware
  • Install cabinet hardware

Week 5-6:

  • Work on and finish SURPRISE feature wall!
  • Finish all details
  • Style and photograph!

And there you have it – that will bring us to our big reveal! I can’t wait to share this renovation ride with y’all! If you want real time updates, head over to my Instagram and follow along in stories!

See you next week, friends, and cheers to the Spring 2019 ORC!

Ana
