Nesting during my pregnancy hit HARD in the third trimester, and it definitely led to a flurry of creativity for me as I was dreaming up a relaxing and sweet sanctuary for our sweet boy. Today, I am so excited to unveil our FULLY COMPLETED charming woodland-inspired nursery, complete with vintage touches and a modern twist. While I had a lot of the nursery completed before Nolan’s arrival, I knew he wouldn’t be moving into this space until 5-6 months-ish, so I wasn’t worried about getting absolutely *everything* completed. Now that he is approaching 5 months (HOW?!?! Time is a thief!), I knew it was finally time to put all the finishing touches on the space!
Before we dive in… for anyone also seeking a touch of nostalgia intertwined with whimsy, a woodland-themed nursery is a great place to start – it not only evokes a sense of enchantment and adventure but is also wonderfully gender-neutral, great for all you parents out there (with way more patience than me!) waiting until birth to find out if you’re little babe is a boy or girl!

Embracing Timeless Elegance: The Black and White Baby Animal Wallpaper Accent Wall
Drawing inspiration from the serene beauty of the forest, the focal point of this nursery is a striking black and white baby animal wallpaper accent wall. I knew I wanted some kind fo baby animal wallpaper, and I almost chose something that was far more saturated in color. But when I found this one from Lulu & Georgia, delicately adorned with adorable creatures amidst a woodland backdrop, I knew it was perfect. It was adorable but also created a relaxing space, and it sets the stage for a magical atmosphere that I know will at least last us at *least*( few years (y’all my design heart is dreading the day Nolan asks for a monster truck or dino-themed room… but I’ll do it anyway because he obviously has me wrapped around his little finger!)
Handcrafted Charm: DIY Stuffed Animal Mobile
Above the more modern style crib, I hung my DIY stuffed animal mobile! I loved making this mobile as I anticipated Nolan’s arrival back in the Fall! And let’s be real – I just couldn’t find one I really loved, so I made it myself instead! It was a labor of love that adds a personal touch to the space, and I also love that once he outgrows it, we can disassemble it and he can play with the baby stuffed animals too – multipurpose decor for the win, always!
I also knit his little sweater hanging off the small wall bookshelves the night before he was born. I knew I was going in for my induction and I was SO nervous, so making this sweater really took my mind off of it, and got me excited to meet our little man! Let me know if I should do a tutorial on this – they really are so easy to make, especially if you’re looking to save some money but still want a personalized sweater for newborn photos etc!
One thing that is not yet in this room is our big glider/recliner. We love it so much, though! Right now it’s in our bedroom since Nolan is still sleeping in our room for at least the next few weeks. Once he transitions to the nursery, the recliner will go right where that grey chair is currently!
A Touch of Nostalgia: The Antique Rocking Horse and Furniture
Adding even more sentimental value, we brought in some antique furniture, including a dresser and circular mirror that belonged to my grandmother (which will double as a changing table), and a sweet bookshelf that was mine when I was a baby. When I’m not photographing this space (aka, all the time except when these photos were taken), our LOVEVERY play gym is in the corner by the bookshelf. I wanted to create an “activity corner” where Nolan can play with toys, books, stuffed animals, etc.
My mom and I also found this exquisite antique rocking horse at a local vintage shop, and he is just perfect with a cute little rabbit sitting on top! I love that each piece in this space tells a story (enter baby photos of me and hubby!), combining past and present in a tapestry of beautiful memories I will cherish for years to come!
Natural Elements: Faux Olive Tree and Fox Woven Baskets
Because this is a woodland-themed nursery, I wanted to bring some elements of the outdoors in. I snagged this lifelike faux olive tree and added a garland of faux greenery around the round mirror. The fox woven baskets were an AMAZING find from Amazon, and while one holds the olive tree, the other provides storage for some toys & stuffed animals. They are just too cute, and I love how practical they are as well.
We also knew that it needed to be DARK for naps and nighttime sleep once Nolan transitioned into this room full-time. That gorgeous woven shade is from Select Blinds, and it’s fully blackout. But, because it’s an inside mount, some light still gets through, so I installed these beautiful sage green blackout curtains. And of course, I couldn’t just choose a plain ole’ curtain rod, so I found this adorable rod with swans on the ends to stay in line with the animal theme! It’s giving anthro vibes but at an Amazon price!
Sweet Sentiments: Wall Baskets and Baby Photos
I initially hung the wall baskets where the bookshelf is, but it seemed so impractical for little hands. So I moved them down below the window so that when Nolan is a bit older he’ll be able to grab the animals he wants and easily put them back (or more realistically, I’ll be putting them back, haha!) A reminder to ensure you are attaching things like this into studs, or using wall anchors so when little hands are exploring they aren’t also damaging walls or injuring themselves!
I also grabbed some art from Etsy to add a vintage vibe to the wall above Nolan’s crib. And not to worry, all of these frames have plastic, not glass, in the fronts, and are secured with earthquake wall hooks. At the point when we have a stander in the crib who might be able to reach these and pull them off the wall, I’ll be adding velcro to the backs to secure them (yes, it will probably ruin the wallpaper, but I won’t be taking them down until we hit the monster-truck or dino room makeover phase! ????)
